CROSSFIT SAVED PART OF MY LIFE

Wait a minute…Who is CrossFit?

Well folks, if you are not familiar with CrossFit, it is actually not a person but a sport 😉

CrossFit or as the definition says : « promotes as both a physical exercise philosophy and also as a competitive fitness sport, its workouts incorporate elements from high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, girevoy sport, calisthenics, strongman, and other exercises »

Well know in the USA for 20 years now, it started to be really famous in France only 4-5 years ago.

Now don’t get me wrong and I’d like to clarify the title of this article right from the beginning haha ! The only one in the entire universe who saved my life is Jesus Christ. No one else is as awesome as He is. But physically talking, you need to know that I lost more than 13 pounds (6kg) the last summer, after the cancellation of our wedding day and the breaking up I am going through for now almost 5 months (13 pounds when I already had only 105 is a quite a big loss). And CrossFit has been « the » sport that helped me to get my butt out of depression and back to a healthy look.

If you are a broken heart as I am, you will surely understand my point ; in the midst of brokenness, we don’t really want to see anyone and do anything but staying at home with ourselves and our tears.

That has been indeed my planning in July and August 2016.

How do you want to be enjoyable to people and smile when you are not even enjoyable for yourself ? So dear reader, it is OK. It is OK to feel this way and to act this way for a little while.

But the dangerous and slippery slope is when we get comfortable in this state of mind. And this is when we have to make a decision and to trust completely God for bringing us out of here.

When I found myself in this situation, I also realized that God in his goodness, uses things around us to bring us out of despair.

Well, for me, God used CrossFit. The first time I heard about this incredible sport is simply when I met my ex fiancé.

A.A. is a great CrossFitter, athlete and owner of a CrossFit in Montgomery ALABAMA. His determination and passion for sports has always amazed me. He is simply super good in what he does. I already liked sport before we met, I was doing squats, abs and all these kind of exercices at home but never got to the point where I was signing up in a Gym. In December 2015, when I went to Montgomery to visit my fiancé, I discovered his business and attend to his classes of CrossFit. I really enjoyed it and I knew that I would start it on a regular basis as soon as we were married and back to the USA.

One big issue appeared though : we never got married and I didn’t move to the USA.

But as I said, God never does anything by hazard and He gave us the opportunity to meet my actual coach in April, when A.A. came to France to look for a job.

At the time, my coach was building his CrossFit and the opening was set for September 5th.

In the midst of my hibernation the past summer, I remembered this detail and jumped on the occasion of signing up for the whole coming year to CROSSFIT ILLZACH  based 15 minutes away from my work.

I started CrossFit almost 3 months ago and I have no regret at all.

The WOD (work of the day) each day is tough but I never felt so released from stress and sadness than when I work out. The community of CrossFit is something amazing ! You find friends but you also find what I would describe as a family. It’s not just going at the Gym and working out for an hour by ourselves, it’s interacting with people, learning, getting stronger and enjoying a fun work out all together without having any competitor but yourself. It’s not about competition in the box, it’s about togetherness.

A lot of my stress and pain has been diminished because of CrossFit and it’s only the beginning !

Linda W Rooks herself in her book « Broken Heart On Hold » explained the importantcy of taking care of our own body. In this book, as she was telling the story about her 3 years separation with her husband, she wrote « During this agonizing time, you truly have achieved enormous success if you finish the day in one piece and with your basic responsibilities accomplished […] You may not sleep as you wrestle through the night with memories, fears, and imaginations. Or you may not be able to get out of bed in the morning. You are precious to God. He does not want you to suffer physically from the neglect you may unconsciously inflict on your body. Take whatever steps are necessary to keep from damaging your health. Try to eat healthy foods and exercice every day […] This troubled time will end, and when it does, you will want to have a healthy body. »

1 Corinthians 6 :19-20

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

Psalm 6 :2

Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak.

Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.

So dear brokenhearted reader, whenever you will be ready to step out of your pain, head up, look for a CrossFit box close to your place and enjoy getting stronger, because « STRONG IS BEAUTIFUL »
